Abstract

1,097,996. Feeding sheets. SIEMENS AG. March 14, 1966 [March 15, 1965], No. 11010/66. Heading B6B. A pneumatic head for separating sheets &c. sequentially from the top of a stack comprises a suction tube 8 which supports a perforated suction plate 1 connected pivotally at 6, 7 to slidable rigid side plates 2, 3, respectively, a bellows 9 connecting the plate 1 to the suction tube 8, and a pneumatic brake means 4 for braking upward movement of the plate 2. Thus, when the plate 1 engages, and is sealed by, the top sheet of the stack, the bellows 9 will commence to collapse due to the build-up of suction, the brake 4 will prevent upward movement of the plate 2, and the plate 3 will be forced upwardly, causing the plate 1 to be tilted about the pivot 6. The grasped sheet will be tilted away from the top of the stack and deformed against a stop 5 carried by the tube 8: this will ensure that if a second sheet is raised with the top sheet, the second sheet will fall back on to the stack. The brake means 4 comprises a bellows 10 in communication with the tube 8, and an outer wall 11 which can press a pin 12 against the side plate 2. When the pneumatic head and tube 8 are moved upwardly, a cam device releases the brake 4, so that the plate 1 and separated sheet are restored to horizontal position, swinging about the pivot 7. The sheet is then swung outwards and transferred to feed rollers &c.
