Abstract

1,097,850. Filter. R. L. KUSS & CO. Inc. Nov. 28, 1966, No. 53163/66. Heading BID. A filter comprises a housing 20 having one end 26 which is closed and which has an outlet, and a filter insert secured in the housing which insert comprises a first plate 11 containing an inlet 15, a second plate 12 spaced apart from the first plate and also adjacent but spaced from end 26 and housing 20, at least one reinforcing member 13 secured to and extending between the plates, and a screen 14 of filtering material embedded throughout the length of the reinforcing member and throughout the periphery of each of the plates. Screen 14 and end plates 11 and 12 may be made of nylon, and the insert may be prepared from two strips of screen 14 (Fig. 1) which are embedded in end plates 11 and 12 and slits in crossmembers 13 by injection moulding of the plates 11 and 12 and members 13. End cap 16 may comprise a second cylindrical element extending into the insert with its exit port in cap 16. End cap 16 may be a snap fit in second plate 12 and the insert maybe held and sealed in the housing 20 by crimping the edge 33 (Fig. 4) against washer 31 and gasket 31. Alternatively, cap 16 may be ultrasonically sealed to plate 12, and the insert ultrasonically sealed to a thermoplastic housing. If end cap 16 is a snap fit, or can be removed by inserting a rod down nozzle 15.
