A method of repairing footwear includes the steps of precoating the sole and/or the heel and shoe bottom with adhesive and then subjecting the adhesive coated surfaces to black body radiation to effect primarily surface heat activation of the adhesive before bonding the surfaces together. The apparatus consists of a frame 14 having an insulating protective top 20 and a black body electric heating element 16, a platform 24 to support the sole, a tree 26 to support the shoe and a timing device 32.
