[Also in Division B4] An apparatus for removing excess welding material from a welded joint in a rail comprises a slide 4 having a channel-shaped cross-section fitting over the tread of the rail 8 and having exchangeable cutters 5, 6 for removing the excess weld 11, and a pneumatically or mechanically operable hammer unit 1 connected to the slide 4 by a shaft 3 for forcing the said cutters through the weld material 11. The hammer unit 1, which may be compressed air or mechanically actuated, is supported by a member 9 having a double flanged guide 10 locating on the rail 8. The cutters may be arranged on the slide 4 so that weld material is removed from the top of the rail before it is removed from the sides.
