Abstract
Moulding or coating compositions comprise a hardening agent and an epoxy resin of the formula <FORM:1096957/C3/1> where R1 is an arylene radical, R2 is an n-valen saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon radical optionally interrupted by one or more oxygen and/or sulphur atoms and/or by one or more arylene radicals or a cycloalkylene radical and n is an integer of at least 2. The epoxy resins may be obtained by reacting a diglycidyl ether of a dihydric phenol with a polyol R2(OH)n and may be used in admixture with conventional epoxy resins. Hardening agents specified are polycarboxylic anhydrides, polyamines and aminoamides. Epoxy resins of the above formula are prepared by reacting the diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A with polyethylene glycols in the presence of ammonium thiocyanate or benzyltrimethyl-ammonium thiocyanate.
