Abstract
Electrodes of W, Ta or Mo for glass making furnaces are made from green compacts of the metal powder which are mounted in the glass making furnace in their normal operating positions and sintered in situ above 1800 DEG C. during the production of molten glass. In the case of Mo the powder is compacted to a density of 7-8 gms/u. The pressed compacts may be coated with a sodium bonosilicate prior to sintering in the glass furnace. Fibres of the metal may be mixed with the metal powder prior to pressing.
