Abstract
Weft replenishment is effected by rewinding the bobbins without removing them from the shuttles. When a shuttle in operation in the bottom cell of a rotary shuttle box (position A, Fig. 5) becomes depleted, the box turns to move a full shuttle from position D to position A and to move the depleted shuttle to position B where the remaining weft is stripped off its bobbin as shown in Fig. 6. A wire hook 74 descends through a hole 108 in the shuttle box to pick up the weft and draw it out of the shuttle between rotating nip rollers 76, 77 housed in a suction duct 75 which disposes of the weft remnant. When the next shuttle is depleted, the shuttle box turns again and takes the emptied shuttle to position C, Fig. 5, at which the bobbin is rewound. As the shuttle approaches position C, a peg 49 on the shuttle box encounters weft yarn extending from a supply cone 66 through a traversable thread guide 48 to a clamp 39 at position D; the peg deflects the yarn across the top of the shuttle as shown. An arm 46 pushes the yarn into engagement with teeth 13 on the bobbin 11, whereby on rotation of the bobbin the teeth trap the yarn so that it winds on to the bobbin, the piece of yarn passing round the peg 49 breaking at this stage; the bobbin is driven by a friction wheel 54 lowered into contact with a wheel 12 on the bobbin. When the bobbin is full, the guide 48 has reached the position 48\sv near the tip of the bobbin. An arm 38 draws a loop of the yarn and deposits it in the clamp 39 at position C; the clamp holds it until the shuttle becomes active on moving to position A.
