Abstract

1,096,451. Drinking vessels. MONO CONTAINERS Ltd. March 25, 1965 [March 26, 1964], No. 12983/64. Heading A4A. A disposable drinking vessel, of polystyrene sheet, has a base 11 and an integral side wall 12 having vertical ribs 13 which stop short of the mouth of the cup and are spaced so that the tip of a user's finger makes contact with at least three of them. The ribs have flat sides which meet at an acute angle inside and/or outside the cup, the ribs of adjacent cups in a stack interengaging to prevent relative rotation Expansion of the ribs, by hot contents, is prevented by a ring 18 which joins the side wall at shoulders 19. A nesting shoulder 15 is formed by arcuate portions of a ring 16 defined between vertical stiffeners 17. In modifications the side wall is vertical, the ribbed part of the side wall diverges at a greater angle than the remainder of the side wall, or the wall of the ring 18 is vertical, or inclined oppositely to the inclination of the remainder of the side wall, or is dispensed with, the ribs being linked at their lower ends by rows of triangular fillets formed in the wall of the cup and projecting outwards less than the ribs.
