Abstract

1,096,252. Securing container closures. R. BERLIOZ. Feb. 14, 1966 [April 15, 1965], No. 6380/66. Headings B8C and B8T. [Also in Division B5] A container 1 of plastics material has a neck 2 of frusto-conical shape on which is placed a similarly shaped plastics closure 3 having a tear strip 6, the ring-shaped area below the tear strip (shown shaded) being heat welded under pressure to the container neck. As shown, the welded area is also of frustoconical shape, but in a modification, Fig. 5, (not shown), a radial flange (8<SP>1</SP>) at the open end of the closure forms a flat ring which is welded to a shoulder surrounding the inner end of the frusto-conioal bottle neck. The closure 3 is applied to the container 1 by a plunger (9), Fig. 6 (not shown), actuated hydraulically, pneumatically, electromagnetically &c. and surrounded by a tubular heater (10) which is slidden to engage the closure and perform the welding operation. The heater (10) may be heated electrically, may conduct heat from an adjacent source, or heat by the transmission of ultrasonic vibrations.
