Abstract

1,095,641. Hydraulic pit props. M. VON LINSINGEN [trading as BOCHUMER EISENHUTTE HEINTZMANN & CO]. Dec. 21, 1964 [Jan. 31, 1964], No. 51803/64. Heading E1E. In an hydraulic pit prop the annular chamber 17 disposed between the piston and cylinder units 2, 1 respectively contains a corrosion and rust inhibiting media such as a water-oil-emulsion which also serves as a lubricant and may be the same as the fluid used in the working chamber of the prop. The chamber 17 is sealed by a packing 18 which may be somewhat modified as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. Fluid escaping from a safety valve 15 or a bleeder valve 16 may be used to 'top up' the chamber 17 'by trickling down the prop at 19a and being entrained into the chamber during collapse of the prop.-The seal 18 is made of polyamide, polyvinyl chloride or foam plastic and may be impregnated with an anti-corrosion agent such as oil, grease, graphite or molybdenum disulphide.
