Abstract

Mono (THAM) dihydrogen citrate, di (THAM) hydrogen citrate, tri (THAM) citrate and di (THAM) tartrate are prepared from THAM (i.e. tris-(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane) and the appropriate acid.ALSO:Pharmaceutical compositions comprise mono (THAM) dihydrogen citrate, di (THAM) hydrogen citrate, tri (THAM) citrate or di (THAM) tartrate and a carrier (THAM = tris (hydroxymethyl) aminomethane). The compositions may optionally contain more than one of these salts and/or one or more other active ingredients, p e.g. THAM, potassium citrate or lithium citrate, and may take the form of a sweetened syrup, a solution for oral administration, optionally as a unit dose in an ampoule, or tablets, granules, or suppositories. The compositions are for correcting acidosis, particularly of the urine.
