Abstract

1,094,333. Semi-conductor switching circuits. DANFOSS A.S. March 2, 1965 [March 3, 1964], No. 8972/65. Heading H3T. [Also in Division H2] An overload protective device comprises a junctionless non-rectifying solid state switching device 20 connected in series with the protected load 16 and operating in a low-resistance condition until the current through it exceeds a threshold value, the device then changing to its high resistance condition. The device remains in its high resistance condition until reset by the application of a voltage exceeding the supply voltage and derived from a voltage amplifier. The solid state switch may be a polycrystalline element consisting of tellurium and an element of Group IV of the Periodic Table. The voltage amplifier may be an impulse transformer, Figs. 2 and 4 (not shown), or a capacitor voltage doubling circuit 21 . . . 24 controlled by a push-button switch 29. The protective circuit and the voltage amplifier circuit may be separate circuits, the solid state device being a plug-in unit which is removed from the protective circuit for resetting.
