Abstract

1.094,128. Earth working &c. TALLINSKY EXKAVATORNY ZAVOD. Nov. 25, 1964, No. 37892/64. Heading E1F. In a trench excavator having a bucket carrying frame 2 pivoted at 27 to the excavator body and also supported by a member 6 in contact with the bottom of the trench, fluid is supplied to and released from hydraulic piston/ cylinder units 3, 5 so that the trench bottom is maintained straight in spite of variations of the height of the ground on which the body stands. The unit 3 is pivoted to the body and the frame, and the unit 5 is pivoted to the frame and a link 8. The link 8 is pivoted to the frame and to a member 9 pivoted to the member 6 and having a slot engaged by the end of the frame. Variations in the height of an element fixed to the excavator above a wire parallel with the trench bottom cause signals to actuate an electro magnetically operated slide valve (21) controlling flow to and from the units. The buckets are lowered relative to the body by supplying fluid to contract the unit 3 and by releasing fluid to permit the unit 5 to contract. The buckets are raised by supplying fluid to extend the unit 5 and by releasing fluid to permit the unit 3 to extend. For small variations of the height of the ground the valve is set so that the length of the unit 3 only is permitted to vary. The member 6 carries a pipe layer 10.
