Abstract

A loose-leaf binder comprises two flexible synthetic plastic bars 15, 16 attached to plates 11, 12 hinged to the book-covers, and flexible filing posts 3, Figs. 9, 15 (not shown), preferably made of nylon attached to the bar 16 and extending through apertures 25 in the bar 15, the bar 15 being channel-shaped above the apertures and having a ceiling part 33 remote from its end wall 30, and the free ends of the posts being received between the ceiling and the plate 11 when the posts are bent over. At the sides of the bar 15 are flanges 31 having slots 39 at their ends adjacent to the wall 30, the slots slidably receiving pivot-pins 38, Fig. 7, on a cover member 35 which can lie flat on the bar 15 to hide the posts or can be pivoted to an open position. At the inner ends of the side walls 37 of the member 35 are upturned parts 41 which can be engaged with or released from a tooth 42 on the ceiling 28 by pressing down the inner end of the cover member 35 and moving the member lengthwise. A bevelled end 43 on the floor 32 of the bar 15, and the tooth 42, form an inclined passage which directs the prong ends under the ceiling part 33. Central spacers 44 between the ceiling and the plate 11, together with the side flanges 31, ceiling 33 and plate 11 provide tunnels which hold the post ends frictionally when the cover member 35 is released. Two posts 3 may be provided at each end of the bar 16. Two separate bars 15 attached to opposite ends of the plate 11 may be provided, so that for different length binders, the same bars 15 may be used with a filling plate 29, Figs. 10, 11 (not shown), of suitable length inserted between their inner ends.
