Abstract
1,093,596. Electro-photographic processes. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A. G. Feb. 19, 1965 [Feb.21, 1964], No.7328/65. Heading G2H. In contact printing by the reflex method, a charged photo-conductive layer is masked, during exposure, by a half-tone screen superimposed thereon, by contact on optical-projection, so that the layer retains the charge pattern, due to the screen, only where the masking is not made ineffective by light diffusely reflected from the light-coloured parts of the opaque original. The photo-conductive surface of the light transmitting copy material is placed in contact with the original or with a thin insulating foil covering the original, and a lens system may be used to project an image of a half-tone screen on to the photo-conductive layer Fig. 1 (not shown). The screen may, alternatively, be integral with the copy material. A half-tone screen may be printed in ink on transparent conductive paper and the printed side coated with a dispersion of zinc oxide in a silicone resin binder. After charging and reflex printing, the photo-conductive surface is developed with a black fusible powder applied by means of a magnetic brush. The developed image is electrostatically transferred to ordinary paper and fixed thereon. Alternatively, a photographic film base having a silver half-tone screen formed in a gelatine layer has the latter vapour coated with a semi-transparent layer of aluminium, which is overcoated with a photo-conductive layer. After charging and reflex printing, the latent electrostatic image is transferred to a layer of polythene on a paper support, on passing between a pair of rollers connected to a source of electrical potential. The transferred image is developed by a charged aerosol of a dye solution.
