Abstract

[Also in Division F4] A refrigerated warehouse comprises two bays 12, 14 having a plurality of floors 18 and an elevator shaft 16 separating the bays. A horizontally movable elevator structure comprising vertical frame members 32, a platform 36 and an hydraulic ram 35 forraisingandlowering the platform is provided in shaft 16. Mounted on platform 36 is a pallet handling device (Fig. 4) which comprises an upper slide 45 which is supported on a lower slide 53. Pinions 56 are secured to the latter and engage racks 60, 61 secured respectively to slide 45 and the platform 36, so that movement of slide 53 causes a greater movement of slide 45. Movement of the slides to either side of the platform is effected by cables 65, 66 which are secured to the ends of slide 53 and are wrapped around a drum 70 which is rotatable in either sense. A vertically movable frame (Fig. 3, not shown) is mounted on jacks on the upper slide.
