Abstract

A float valve disposed between a sink outlet and a waste collecting bucket is disposed at an angle to the vertical either by forming an angled inlet 5 or by attaching the valve to the bucket with a hook 18. When the bucket is not filled a hollow float 12 rests on fork 14 and acts as a strut to keep a movable closure member 9 off its seat 2. When the liquid level in the bucket attains a given height it tilts the float 12 about trunnions 10 and the closure member closes by gravity and the pressure of any liquid waste on the closure member 9. The resulting blockage of the waste conduit indicates that the bucket needs to be emptied after which the float and closure members are manually reset in the position shown; a lever may be fitted to the valve stem for this purpose. The valve stem is square and co-operates with a correspondingly shaped web-supported guide. The trunnions may be replaced by a ball and the assembly is made of polyethylene or polyvinyl chloride, the closure member 9 being of softer material than the seat.
