Abstract

1,092,591. Centrifugal pumps. LEE, HOWL & CO. Ltd. Feb. 1, 1966 [Feb. 5, 1965], No. 5056/65. Heading F1C. A pump 16 is guidably lowered into a basin containing sewage to a position in which the pump outlet 18 is aligned with a fixed delivery pipe 14. Then means controllable from the top of the basin make a substantially liquid tight joint between the outlet 18 and pipe 14. In the embodiment shown the means comprises a snail cam 24 mounted on a rotatable guide 11 to move the pump horizontally and thereby form a compression joint between the outlet 18 and pipe 14. The cam may operate with a stirrup so that it can move the pump towards and away from the pipe 14. In alternative embodiments, the cam arrangement may be replaced by a system of levers or a screw, or the means may comprise a screw-threaded sleeve on the outlet 18 movable into engagement with the end of the pipe 14 to form a compression joint or an internally-threaded sleeve movable to engage complementary screw threads on the delivery pipe.
