Abstract
1,092,559. Feel consumption indicators; indicating-apparatus. MOBIL OIL CORPORATION. Aug. 17, 1965 [Aug. 19, 1964], No.35190/65. Headings G1J and G1K. The operating efficiency of an internal combustion engine is indicated by the position of an indicator 122 against a fuel performance map 119, relative movement between the indicator 122 and map 119 resulting from relative displacement in two directions at right-angles proportional to engine speed and instantaneous rate of fuel consumption respectively and map contours representing brake specific fuel consumption for example in pounds per brake horse power hour. The indicator 122 may be mounted on a vertical wire 123 guided over rollers 127 and driven by a throttle linkage and the map 119 may be mounted on a sector oscillated about a vertical axis in response to engine speed. Alternatively, electrical signals representing the engine speed and rate of fuel consumption may be applied to the horizontal and vertical sweeps of an oscilloscope with a transparent map superimposed on the cathode ray tube.
