Abstract

1,092,083. Knitting. ETABLISSEMENTS GASTON VERDIER. Nov. 4, 1964 [Nov. 8, 1963], No. 45014/64. Headings D1C and D1K. A skirt is fashioned on a straight-bar machine by introducing yarn carriers J2, J3 in addition to the main carrier J1 and simultaneously operating transfer points 10, 12, 14, 16 to effect fashioning midway across the width of the skirt as well as conventional fashioning at the extreme edges such that three fashioned strips 1a, 2 and 3 are produced following the body 1 of the main portion. The yarn carriers J1, J2, J3 feed the yarn for the separate knitting of the strips which are continuously fashioned to provide the upper waist portion of the skirt. On completion the two outer srips 1a and 3 are bodily transfer inwardly and a course or courses is or are knitted across the full width of the fabric to join the strips together at their upper edge. The slits extending between the portions are subsequently sewn or otherwise secured together to close them. A waist band may be knitted on to the top of the skirt and may be either preformed and knitted on to the top or actually produced by a subsequent knitting operation. A few additional courses knitted on the top of the waist may serve as an edge to which a lining for the skirt may be secured.
