[Also in Divisions E1 and F2] A method of fixing foamed natural or synthetic resins to a rigid support, comprises adhering patches 3 of a natural or synthetic elastomer, e.g. rubber, to the support 1, the patches having flat headed pins 4 or screws 7 associated therewith such that the heads of the pins or screws are next to the support and the pointed ends of the pins or screws protrude through the patches, and spraying foamed resin 2, e.g. polyurethane, on to the patches to cover the ends of the pins or screws. Pins may be used the pointed ends of which are (i) capped with caps 5 of a natural or synthetic polymer, e.g. rubber, (Fig. 1); (ii) bent over (Fig. 3); or (iii) barbed (Fig. 4); the capped, bent over or barbed ends being completely covered by the sprayed foamed resin. As shown in Fig. 5, screws 7, may be used, the heads thereof being next to the support 1, the shanks of the screws protrude through the patches 3 and are provided with washers 8 and nuts 9 at the ends thereof, the nuts and ends being covered by the sprayed foamed resin 2. The patches of elastomer may be adhered to the support with a neoprene based adhesive. The suport may be of asbestos and a coat of sealing compound, e.g. shellac, is applied thereto where the patches are to be adhered.
