[Also in Division B4] The disc blade of a paper-roll cutting apparatus is sharpened by grinding wheels 136, 137 driven by motors 136a, 137a and inclined relative to each other to develop a double bevelled edge on the blade 124. The wheels 136, 137 are moved towards each other by the operation of solenoids 136b, 137b and coolant is supplied by a jet 135a. Sharpening takes place where the blade 124 is fully clear of the log or roll L.
