Fuel is conveyed to a screw elevator 2 by a screw conveyer 1 having a U-shaped opentopped casing 4. The conveyer and elevator may be pivoted together so as to vary the angle. The pitch of the conveyer may be less than the pitch of the elevator. The elevator screw 2 is mounted in a U-shaped open-topped rubber trough 8 the opposed edges of which are carried resiliently by hooks or chains 9 from a pair of parallel rods 11 carried by rigid trough sections 12. Thus, if jamming occurs, the trough 8 may be released to free the obstruction.
