Abstract

A boring tool for cutting circumferential grooves in the bore of a workpiece 22 comprises a shaft 1 slidably supported in a sleeve 9 by a key 19, and a wedge 2 secured on the shaft, which is inserted in a hole 8 in a cutting bit 7. A graduated thimble 10 provides for setting the axial position of shaft 1 relative to sleeve 9. In operation, the tool is introduced into the bore of the workpiece 22 until the end cap 5 abuts the workpiece. The tool is rotated and axial pressure is exerted, so that shaft 1 moves relatively to sleeve 9, and wedge 2 causes the cutter bit 7 to move outwardly in a radial direction, to thus form the groove in the workpiece.
