Abstract

1,090,393. Patterns. G. R. PETERS. Dec. 3, 1966 [March 29, 1966], No. 13766/66. Heading B3F. A collapsible wooden pattern for use in the preparation of moulds for large metal castings comprises a plurality of side members G which are interconnected by key pieces P and to which top and bottom pattern members are attached along joints marked *. The key pieces are formed by battens E which are permanently fixed to a piece D which is equal to the combined thickness of side G and a piece F. The piece D is tapered to correspond with a taper on the end of side G and piece F to facilitate the easy removal of the key pieces for disassembly of the pattern after the formation of the mould. Within the pattern the sides are supported by removable support members S and T which are attached to battens K secured to the sides G. When the side walls have been assembled the top and bottom portions are positioned and the mould formed by sand packing or slinging. The members S and T effecting support to the sides during this operation. The pattern is subsequently extracted from the mould by the removal of the top and bottom members and collapsing the sides G by the removal of the key pieces P.
