Abstract
1,090,386. Moulding fluid-pressure control valves. MUANYAGIPARI KUTATO INTEZET. Feb. 24, 1965 [March 3, 1964], No. 8012/65. Heading B5A. [Also in Division F2] A fluid-pressure control valve is made in two parts, a spindle 1 comprising a closure member 7, a screw-threaded portion 8, and a hand. operated control knob 2, integrally formed therewith, and a casing 3. The spindle 1 may be made of thermoplastic or thermosetting synthetic plastics material, of plastics material and metal, or of metal only, and the casing is made by injection or compression moulding plastics material, preferably thermoplastics material, directly about the spindle while the latter is supported in a suitable mould. Various modifications are described wherein, for example, the closure member is tapered, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), the casing is shaped as at (14), Fig. 6 (not shown), such that the sealing between the casing and closure member (13) is augmented by fluid pressure within inlet (5), leakage between spindle 1 and casing 3 is limited by a ridge (16), Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown), which bears firmly against spindle 1 as this is unscrewed, and wherein the casing is corrugated as at (21), Fig. 9 (not shown), to provide axial flexibility and the spindle 1 is provided with a blind bore (19) to increase lateral flexibility. A lubrication bore (20) is also provided. Preferably, prior to the moulding step, the spindle is pre-treated with a swelling or contracting agent which in the case of a metal spindle is a heat treatment, and preferably also is treated with a parting agent such as graphite, molybdenum disulphide, silicon grease, polyvinyl alcohol or cellulose acetate. In the case of graphite and molybdenum disulphide, these may be added to the starting material prior to manufacture of the spindle. In an example, the spindle is injection moulded from a polycaprolactam containing graphite and the casing is moulded from a low melting-point polyamide. Another spindle material mentioned is polyformaldehyde and casing materials mentioned include polyethylene, polypropylene, polyformaldehyde and polycarbonate.
