Abstract

1,090,257. Sensing records. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. May 17, 1966 [May 17, 1965], No. 20772/65. Heading G4M. An article is provided with two code tracks, one being the binary complement of the other, the tracks are sensed by respective photo-cells feeding a difference amplifier and an indication circuit energizes one or other of two outputs in dependence on the sense of the amplifier output. The photo-cell outputs may be gated with a square wave to produce an output from the difference amplifier which is either in phase or in antiphase with the square wave, the phase of this output being detected by two gates which are respectively enabled by the square wave and its inverse.
