Abstract

Compositions comprise a vinyl chloride polymer and as plasticizer a sulphone of formula R-SO2-R1 where R and R1 are unsubstituted alkyl or cycloalkyl. The polymer may be a vinyl chloride homopolymer or copolymer with minor proportions of other monomers, e.g. vinyl acetate. The compositions may also contain stabilizers, e.g. lead salts, barium, cadmium and zinc soaps and epoxides thereof, alkyl tin salts and phenolic antioxidants, and lubricants, e.g. waxes and soaps. Examples describe compositions comprising polyvinyl chloride, white lead, calcium stearate and (1) n-butyl 2,4,4-trimethylpentyl sulphone, (2) octan-2-yl 2,4,4-trimethylpentyl sulphone, (3) diisooctyl sulphone, (4) nonyl 2,4,4-trimethylpentyl sulphone, (5) dinonyl sulphone, (6) t.-hexyl tetradecyl sulphone, (7) diisodecyl sulphone, and (8) ditridecyl sulphone.
