Abstract

1,089,842. Weaving pile fabrics. EDWIN FIELD & SONS Ltd. Feb. 25, 1965 [Feb. 28, 1964], No. 8537/64. Headings D1E and D1K. Long and short pile is woven by floating pile warp yarns on the surface of the base fabric under pile wires such as 11, 14, 15; when the wires are withdrawn, a cutting wire 10 produces a short tuft anchored by the weft shot on its left, and a long tuft anchored by the weft shot to the right of the wire 16. The length of the long tufts is governed by depth wires such as 16. The same wires perform different functions in relation to different pile yarns: for instance, the wire 15 is a depth wire for some tufts, and 11 is a cutting wire.
