Abstract
Metal strip such as aluminium foil for electrolytic condensers is electrolytically etched in an etching bath, e.g. containing an aqueous solution of HCl with or without NaCl or AlCl3, using A. C. voltage connected across two counter-electrodes, preferably made of graphite coated with glass fibre mesh, arranged either side of the metal strip, and a futher voltage source being connected between the strip and the counter-electrodes, preferably with a mid-tapping of the A. C. voltage source. The further voltage source may be A. C. preferably of different frequency, or D. C. with the positive pole being connected to the strip and the negative pole connected to the mid-tapping. The process prevents hydroxide layer formation leading to unetched areas on aluminium foil.
