Abstract
The invention comprises O,O-diiso-butyroylthiamine disulphide of formula <FORM:1089475/C2/1> The compound may be prepared by reacting thiothiamine with isobutyric acid or an isobutyroyl halide, reacting the resulting O-isobutyroylthiothiamine with a desulphurizing agent (e.g. hydrogen peroxide) and oxidizing the resulting O-isobutyroylthiamine (e.g. with a halogen, hydrogen peroxide or an alkali metal ferricyanide) to O,O-diisobutyroylthiamine disulphide. Alternatively, thiaminedisulphide may be reacted with isobutyric anhydride or an isobutyroyl halide. Examples are given. O,O - Diisobutyroylthiamine disulphide may be made into tablets, e.g. with lactose, and used to treat Vitamin B1 avitaminosis.
