Abstract

Mono-azo thiazole dyes of general formula <FORM:1089196/C4-C5/1> in which R1 and R2 are hydrogen atoms or together form an unsubstituted or substituted ring system, R3 is an alkyl radical containing 1-3 carbon atoms, R4, R5 and R6 which may be the same or different are hydrogen atoms or alkyl radicals of 1 to 3 carbon atoms and in which X is an anion are prepared by oxidative coupling of thiazole-2-one hydrazones of formula <FORM:1089196/C4-C5/2> the symbols being as above, with a 1-carbamidino - 3 - methyl - 5 - pyrazolone of formula <FORM:1089196/C4-C5/3> the symbols being as above. The oxidation agent used may be a ferric salt, e.g. ferric chloride, hydrogen peroxide, persulphates, cupric salts and hexacyano-ferrates. The new dyes give yellow-orange shades on fibres of at least 50% polyacrylonitrile.
