Abstract

Chlorofluoroalkanes are prepared by reacting calcium fluoride with one or more chlorosubstituted hydrocarbons selected from C1-C6 chlorosubtituted alkanes, C1 to C6 chlorosubstituted alkenes and chlorosubstituted alicyclic alkanes in the presence of potassium chloride at a temperature from 150 DEG C. to 700 DEG C. and at atmospheric or superatmospheric pressure, for a period of time sufficient to react a predetermined quantity of the fluoride from the calcium fluoride with the chlorosubstituted hydrocarbon(s). Examples describe the production of chlorofluoroalkanes from carbon tetrachloride.
