Abstract
1,088,726. Telegraphy. DE STAAT DER NEDERLANDEN, TEN DEZE VERTEGENWOORDIGD DOOR DE DIRECTEURGENERAAL DER POSTERIJEN, TELEGRAFIE EN TELEFONIE. Oct. 13. 1964 [Oct. 15, 1963], No. 41725/64. Heading H4P. In a two-way telegraph system in which errors are corrected by repetition, the stations transmit alternately and a station can transmit only after reception from the other station. Both stations have a two-state counter, normally in state 1. If a first station detects error in a received signal (character or block of characters) it returns a service signal S1 or S2, depending on the state 1 or 2 of the local counter, and then the counter changes state. At the receiver, when its counter is in state 1, reception of (a) a mutilated signal results in transmission of S1, or (b) S1 results in repetition of the previous traffic signal, and the counter changes to state 2. However, when its counter is in state 2, reception of (c) a traffic signal results in transmission of the next traffic signal; or (d) a mutilated signal results in S2; or (e) S2 results in repetition of the previous traffic signal; or (f) S1 results in S2, and the counter reverts to state 1. Every correctly received character is printed. The time gap between transmission of signals from either station may be filled by signals from other stations.
