Abstract

970,142. Telegraphy. DE STAAT DER NEDERLANDEN, TEN DEZE VERTEGENWOORDIGD DOOR DE DIRECTEURGENERAAL DER POSTERIJEN, TELEGRAFIE EN TELEFONIE. Nov. 5 1962 [Nov. 10, 1961], No. 41707/62. Heading H4P. In an error-correcting simplex telegraph system in which signals are sent in blocks spaced apart by sufficient time to receive one or other of two answer-back signals, a third answer-back signal is provided so that the direction of main transmission can be altered either on the initiative of the receiver or of the transmitter. If block 1 (a b c) is the last information block to be transmitted, upon reception from the distant receiver Y of answer-back signal R2 transmitter X sends block 2 which is a special signal combination (Cy, +, ?). Receiver Y recognizes this as a request to switch to transmission of information blocks and so transmits the special answer-back signal R3 to inform the station X that it is to switch to reception. Station X now transmits a block of idle-time signals (#α#) which cause Y to transmit a calling signal III and subsequently to transmit information block 1 (p q r) &c. Should the system be non-synchronous the station receiving signal R3-which in this case comprises a sequence of pulses alternately f1 and f2-will open a gate for a preset time to enable this signal to be recognized. If the signal is received mutilated, due to the instants of frequency change occurring in phase with the receiver time base, on repetition it is shifted in phase by “ of an element period. Preferably the answer-back signals are of the form in which one can simulate another only by double transposition. Specifications 930,128 and 970,141 are referred to.
