Abstract
A porous rubber material composed of two integral portions, each portion having a different porosity, is produced by preparing one portion from an unvulcanized raw rubber, chemicals to vulcanize the rubber, a foaming agent which decomposes at 150 DEG to 160 DEG C. to form discrete fine bubbles and a powdered water-soluble salt not decomposed at the vulcanizing temperaure and a second portion from raw rubber and vulcanizing agents, and three foaming agents decomposing at 60 DEG to 90 DEG C., 100 DEG to 110 DEG C. and 130 DEG to 160 DEG C. respectively and a leachable salt as above, putting the two portions succesively into a moulding die, and then gradually heating the die, so that the two portions are foamed to different porosities and fuse together, removing the cooled body from the die and washing with water. The three foaming agents are suitably sodium bicarbonate, p-toluene sulphonyl hydrazide and p,p1-oxy-bis-benzene sulphonyl hydrazide respectively, and the latter may also be used as the foaming agent in the first portion. The preferred water-soluble salts are sodium chloride and sulphate. The composite material may be used as a rubber stamp (see Division B6).
