Abstract

[Also in Division F2] A metering valve controlling the flow between two passages 62, 64 at right angles to each other comprises a cylindrical valve member 72 which is a close slip fit in a bore 70. An axial passage 90 in the member 72 is in constant communication with passage 62 and a radial passage 94 leads from the axial passage to a V-shaped circumferential groove 96. The width of the groove 96 tapers from the passage 94 for 180‹ on both sides of the passage. The angular position of the valve member is adjusted by removing a plug 74. The metering valve is described for use in a valve controlling flow of fluid to a press cylinder in which a supply (16) Fig. 1 (not shown), feeds through a non-return valve (26) to the cylinder and the cylinder pressure acts through passages (64), (60), grooves (54), (50) and passage (48) to close a valve (32) at a predetermined pressure. When the pressure cylinder falls, the pressure acting on the end of cylinder (46) leaks through the metering valve to allow the spring (36) to open the valve (32).
