Abstract

1,087,951. Selective printing. BORGWARNER CORPORATION. March 23, 1965 [April 9, 1964], No. 12295/65. Heading B6F. In a system for directing a mass of charged particles for direction through a stencil on to a web, a charge head comprises an array of electrodes 25, 26 having a central axis 24, there being a plurality of pairs of such electrodes, one electrode of each pair being nearer the central axis thanthe other. The former or inner electrodes of each pair are connected directly to one terminal of a firing source, but the other terminal is connected to the outer electrodes via resistors, whereby the firing of one pair of electrodes does not inhibit the firing of the other pairs. One array is provided for each stencil aperture, the charged particles passing therethrough impinging on a tape which is subsequently developed and fixed. The stencil may be in the form of an endless metallic band, a hollow cylinder, or a' disc having apertures denoting single characters to be selectively positioned before each array.
