A torsional vibration damper comprises a casing 3 and a cover 1, the cover having at its periphery a chamfer 9 which extends to approximately half the thickness of the cover. The chamfer is provided with two circumferential grooves 2 which are preferably part circular in cross-section. The cover 1 is secured in the easing by rolling over the outer edge of the casing, the grooves being filled by casing material to form a seal. The angle of chamfer is preferably between 30 and 40 degrees. The cover is provided with a filling aperture 5 which is closed on completion of the damper filling operation by a cover 6.
