Abstract
1,087,723. Oil and gas separators. BLACK, SIVALLS & BRYSON Inc. Oct. 12, 1964, No. 4l581/64. Heading B1M. A foaming oil stream is separated Into its gaseous and liquid components by a process comprising flowing the stream in a helical path, for example in cyclones 8, 9 (Fig. 2 not shown), flowing the gas upwardly through the centre of the helical path, through wire mesh pads 20-23, 26-28 and out at 34, (Fig. 1), flowing horizontally the liquid and foam collecting in weir box 18, the foam being restrained and broken by the wire mesh pads including pad 31, and discharging foam-free liquid which passes into tube 39 through slots 40, the liquid discharge being controlled by float 44. In the embodiment of Fig. 3 (not shown), the foam is restrained by perforated baffles 67-69, and any foam carried into the upper part of the vessel is resolved on passing through tube section 71, the separated liquid flowing to drain tubes 76, 83, 84.
