Parallel slag beds 2, 3 arranged in groups have hoppers 4 spaced longitudinally therein and filled by a tractor provided with a scarifier and a bulldozer blade. Conveyer means 10 running in closed or open passageways 5 feeds the slag to inclined conveyers leading to a loading station or further treatment plant. Various arrangements of beds and treatment plants are described.
