Abstract
1,087,217. Fuel elements. ELECTRICITE DE FRANCE (SERVICE NATIONAL). June 14, 1966 [June 15, 1965], No. 26420/66. Heading G6C. A shock-absorber positioned at the bottom of a fuel element channel 1 comprises a cup-shaped support 2 having an aperture 2b freely receiving the stem 4 of a shock-receiving member having a head 6 and a disc 8 abutting the head 10 of an element 12 secured to the support 2. The tensile strength of the element 12 is predetermined so that when a fuel element strikes the head 6 the energy is absorbed by elongation of the element which may break, the remaining energy then being similarly absorbed by a longer element 22. In a modification (not shown) the energy is absorbed by a plurality of identical elements 12 spaced around the aperture 2b.
