Abstract

1,087,199. Rolling strip. LODGE & SHIPLEY CO. Oct. 2, 1964 [Oct. 3, 1963], No. 40176/64. Heading B3M. Metal strip is reduced in thickness and increased in width by passing it obliquely around a cylindrical of conical mandrel 5, while traversing rollers R circumferentially about the mandrel. The strip is thus rolled in increments, the paths of the rollers being parallel and inclined to the strip. The rollers R are mounted in a carrier 9 which is supported in a fixed base and rotated by means of external gear teeth 13. Axial creep of the strip along the mandrel may be prevented by shoulders on the mandrel or guide rollers. A conical mandrel allows easy radial adjustment of the rollers relative to the strip.
