Abstract

1,085,797. Control of motors. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. Oct. 5, 1964 [Oct. 4, 1963; Jan. 7, 1964], Nos. 39134/63 and 662/64. Addition to 1,051,067. Heading H2J. [Also in Division H3] The delay arrangements in the windscreen wiper motor control system described in the parent Specification is modified in various details. The wiper makes a single sweep and remains in its parked position until thyristor 21 is triggered; as shown, this occurs when transistor 24 conducts, which is when capacitor 28 has sufficiently discharged through 23 and 27. This is said to obviate accidental switching by transients. The circuit may be modified by omitting resistor 23 and replacing diode 22 by a large variable resistor. 28 is then charged through the anode and gate of 21 and transistor 24. When the wiper is switched off (switch 16 to 20) a discharge path for 28 is provided through 29 and the motor windings so that, upon switching on, the motor starts immediately. Alternatively, an additional diode and switch may be arranged to discharge the capacitor. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown) the thyristor is triggered when a unijunction transistor or a four-layer diode conducts, the delay in this case being effected by the charging of a capacitor via a variable resistor.
