Abstract
1,085,657. Unwinding bobbin ends; doffing and donning; cleaning. LEESONA CORPORATION. Sept. 21, 1965 [Oct. 7, 1964], No. 40125/65. Headings D1D, D1F and D1J. A bobbin that is to be unwound has a fluid stream applied thereto to unwind its free end in a plane substantially normal to the axis of the bobbin, said unwound portion being then subjected to a second fluid stream that moves the unwound portion to a severing means where it is severed to leave a free yarn end connected to the bobbin. Air stream arrangement. The bobbin is vertical and is carried by an inflatable arbor 60, Fig. 4, passing upwardly through a concave plate 100 having a radial slot 108. The yarn bunch at the foot of the bobbin is unwound as follows:-(a) A transverse air jet 180 acts on the yarn bunch whilst the arbor 60 rotates the bobbin in a direction to allow the air jet 180 to unwind the yarn bunch; (b) the unwound yarn commences to unwind in a plane normal to the axis of the bobbin and eventually passes over the slot 108 in the concave plate 100; (c) a down-jet 182 then operates to blow the unwound yarn down through the slot 108; (d) a cross-jet 184 then operates to blow the unwound end around the cofines of a duct 140 towards an air suction passage 142 and, in doing this, the yarn is severed by cutter blades 162, 163, Fig. 3 (not shown) below the plate 100; (e) the jets 180, 182, 184 are then shut off and an up-jet 186 is activated to cause the severed end on the bobbin to be blown upwardly to a position where it is available for connection with the yarn end of an associated take up package. The severed end passing down the suction passage 142 comes to rest on a waste collecting screen. A cleaning instrument can be inserted through the-sealing aperture 148 to remove the waste collected on the in screen. Doffing and donning. When the bobbin is empty the arbor 60 is deflated and the concave plate 100 is raised to lift the empty bobbin off the arbor. A balloon restrictng tube 44, Fig. 1 (not shown), is then rocked sideways to sweep the empty bobbin off the plate 100. When a fresh bobbin is fed onto the plate 100 its concavity guides its lower end to a setting where, when the plate 100 is lowered, the fresh bobbin will slide onto the arbour 60.
