Abstract

To prevent the finger tearable closures (4) (Fig. 1, not shown) of containers (1) bursting during heat sterilization, the containers are secured in pairs with the tearable closures face to face (Fig. 3, not shown). The tearable sheet (4) may be heat sealed at (6) (Fig. 2, not shown) to the containers (1, 11) and the flange portions (2, 21) of each container (1, 11) may be heat sealed together at (7) (Fig. 5, not shown) p or may be gripped between two rectangular clamps (9, 91) (Fig. 7, not shown). After heat sterilizing and cooling, the two containers are separated by cutting at (8) between the peripheral seals (6) and (7). The finger tearable sheet (4) may be of thermoplastic or metallic foil and may be provided with a tear tape to facilitate subsequent opening. The containers (1, 11) may be of thermoplastic, or paper board or metallic foil preferably coated or laminated to a heat sealable material. The containers (1, 11) may be steam sterilized in an autoclave at 5-35 p.s.i. or dry heated e.g. 80 DEG C. for 30 mins.ALSO:To prevent the finger tearable closures (4) (Fig. 1, not shown) of containers (1) bursting during heat sterilisation, the containers are secured in pairs with the tearable closures face to face (Fig. 3, not shown).
