Abstract
Novel 3,4 - dihydro - 4 - substituted - 1H - 2, 1,3 - benzothiadiazine - 2,2 - dioxides and N-chloro derivatives of the formulae <FORM:1084429/C2/1> <FORM:1084429/C2/2> wherein R is a C1- 4 alkyl, phenyl or substituted phenyl radical, R1 is halogen or a C1- 4 alkyl, C1- 4 alkoxy, trifluoromethyl or sulphamoyl radical, n is 0, 1 or 2 and R2 is hydrogen or a C1- 4 alkyl, phenyl, benzyl, alpha-methylbenzyl or phenethyl radical, are prepared by reduction of corresponding 4-substituted-1H-2,1,3-benzothiadiazine-2, 2-dioxides of the formula <FORM:1084429/C2/3> and, if desired, further treating products in which R2 represents hydrogen with 2 moles of chlorine. Mono-N-chlorinated compounds are formed if 1 mole of chlorine is employed.ALSO:Compounds of the formula:- <FORM:1084429/D1-D2/1> wherein R is a C1-4 alkyl, phenyl or substituted phenyl radical, R\sv is halogen or a C1-4 alkyl, C1-4 alkoxy, trifluoromethyl or sulphamoyl radical and n is 0, 1 or 2, and similar compounds containing only one N-chlorine atom, are used to bleach cotton textiles.
