Abstract

A composition comprises (1) a high molecular weight copolymer of formaldehyde and 0.5-10% of a comonomer, (2) less than 5% of the total composition of a phenol derivative having an alkyl group in both positions ortho to the hydroxy group and (3) up to 15% of the total composition of a polyurethane. The phenol derivative may be 2,6-di-tert.-butyl alphamethoxy - p - cresol, 4,41 - methylene bis-(2,6- di - tert. - butyl phenol), 4,41 - thio bis - (2-6- di - tert. - butyl - 3 - methyl phenol), 2,6 - ditert. - butyl - alpha - dimethyl amino - p - cresol or 2,21 - methylene bis - (2 - methyl - 6 - tert.)- butyl phenol while the polyurethane may be polyhexamethylenetetramethylene urethane, polydecamethylene - octa - methylene urethane, polytetramethylenehexamethylene urethane, the polyaddition product of 2,5-bis-(beta-isocyanate ethyl) furan and tetramethylene glycol, the poly-addition product of tetramethylene diisocyanate and hexanetriol or the polyaddition product of tetramethylene diisocyanate and N-methyl diethanol amine. The comonomer may be a carbonyl compound, an olefin, a vinyl compound, a diene, a cyclic ether, a cyclic formal, a lactone or an isocyanate. The products may be made into films, fibres or moulded articles.
