Abstract
1,083,756. Dynamometers; linear dimension gauges. WIRTH, GALLO & CO. Jan. 20, 1966, No. 2672/66. Headings G1M and G1W. A dynamometer or extensometer comprising at least two arms or discs which are rotatable relatively to one another about a common axis so that relative rotational movement of the two arms or discs serves as a measure of the force or extension applied, is characterized by the fact that one or more rods obliquely mounted with regard to the common axis join the ends of the arms or the edges of the discs, to which they are fixed by means of elastic or ball joints. The first arm or disc may be fixed to a shaft and the second mounted for rotation and axial displacement thereon with the rod coupled to the arms or discs by ball joints, Fig. 3 (not shown). Where two discs are used they may be coupled by a plurality of rods which may be formed at their ends with portions of reduced diameter sufficiently elastic to bend when a force or extension is applied Fig. 5 (not shown). A third central disc may be connected to the end discs by two sets by rods arranged with opposite obliquity with respect to the axis, Fig. 6 (not shown). The extensometers of Figs. 1, 5 and 6 can be used as dynamometers if a coiled spring is inserted Figs. 10, 11 (not shown). Identical discs may be joined by a tubular member formed with slits or both may be similarly joined to a central disc 7, Fig. 12, carrying a pointer 22 co-operating with a scale 23 carried by a massive body 20 in which the dynamometer is fixed.
