Abstract

Unsaturated macromolecular substances are reacted in aqueous suspension with an aromatic peracid at a temperature at which it forms hydroxyl cations OH+, below 25 DEG C. and above the solidification temperature of said suspension. Suitable polymers are natural rubber, butadiene-styrene copolymer and poly-chloroprene. The exemplified peracid is o-monoperphthalic acid. The suspension may also contain non-ionic emulsifier and formic acid.
